Eduard's 1/48 scale
Bell P-39D Airacobra

Bell P-39D Airacobra

Eduard's 1/48 scale P-39Q Airacobra is available online from Squadron

Description

This is Eduard's 1/48 scale built straight from the box except for the Quickboost engine panel. This simple resin conversion presented no real fit problems.

The kit is nicely moulded with fine surface details, excellent cockpit and wheel well details.  One disappointment is the thickness of the wing and rudder trailing edges and I wished that I had thinned these down before assembly.

Fitting the Quickboost engine panel was a fairly simple task.  I ran my panel scribing tool and Xacto Knife around the panel lines to increase their depth until the panel simply fell out.  The engine panel fits snugly into place with some superglue or epoxy.

The nice inclusions in the Eduard kit are the etched metal fret, moulded nose weight and the clear cockpit doors.

The kit was finished with Xtra Color paints and the Airacutie decals are from the Superscale range.

Very subtle weathering was applied before a final coat of clear matt finish.

Squadron-Signal's P39 in Action was used for reference.
