Trumpeter's new 1/48 scale Sea Hawk kit is very nice indeed with excellent surface detail and a myriad of options.

However, the cockpit (and especially the seat) is somewhat lacking, and control surfaces are fixed in neutral positions.

Pavla has addressed this situation with three new releases for Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Sea Hawk kit. All are moulded in Pavla's customary pale yellow resin, and the parts are perfectly cast.

This set includes a replacement set of ailerons, elevators, horizontal tail and rudder. The join line for the rudder has a recessed groove in the trailing edge of the horizontal tail parts, making fitting and posing the parts much easier. Another nice touch is the deflected trim tabs on the elevators, ailerons and rudder.

The parts are pictured at the top of the page.

Pavla's seat is more accurate in size and detail than the kit part, and includes a cast-on harness. The tub itself bristles with cast-on detail, and the top of the instrument coaming looks much busier and more realistic than its kit counterpart. The sidewalls are equally well detailed and are incredibly thin in places. You'll probably want to glue these to the kit sidewalls before painting, as the kit plastic will show through in places otherwise.

Casting quality is excellent, with no pin holes or other imperfections apparent on any of my samples. There is some wafer-thin flash present here and there, which can be tidied up with a swipe of a sharp hobby knife.

Most of the resin parts are mainly cast to each block via fine strips, so removal will not be a great chore. The cockpit tub is cast onto a more substantial, but shallow, block.

If you happen to be building an early or export Sea Hawk, Pavla has made the task easier with this Martin Baker MB Mk.2D ejection seat. This is a a simple one piece replacement ejection seat with harness and pull ring cast in place.

Pavla's new suite of upgrades and accessories will represent a genuine improvement over Trumpeter's kit counterparts.

If you are building Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Sea Hawk, Pavla's upgrades will add a new level of detail and individuality to your project.

All Highly Recommended
