Description

Here is my 1/72 scale Fine Molds IJN ' Type A' Midget Submarine, Sydney Harbour attack version.

I made a few little modifications, mainly:

  • The addition of the two cables using Ezy-line

  • Replacing the support struts at the front cable cutter with thin aluminium strip

  • Adding support braces to the rear of the propeller guard using stretched sprue

  • Thinning down the edges of the bow guard

The model was painted and weathered in Tamiya acrylics, mainly a 50:50 mix of black and hull red with the rusts streaks sprayed on in various shades of red brown, buff and light grey, all heavily thinned. Sharp edges were drybrushed with powdered graphite from a lead pencil.

The kit went together over a weekend and the only criticism I have is that there is no English translation for the historical information.

The assembly sequence is amply explained with large, exploded view drawings however and the kit itself has relatively few parts and a very simple breakdown of parts.
