Roy Sutherland of Cooper Details fame has launched a new range of fine quality decal sheets called BarracudaCals.

BarracudaCals first 1/32 scale sheet depicts schemes for two P-47 Razorback Thunderbolts of the USAAF based in England during 1944.

The markings are designed for the new Trumpeter 1/32 scale P-47 Razorback kit.

The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent register.  The carrier film is ultra thin and has minimum excess carrier film surrounding the decal.

The instruction sheet is printed in colour and gives excellent detail on the colour scheme and decal placement and application.

Markings are provided for 2 aircraft as follows

  • P-47C-5-RE Sno 41-6538 QP*B ‘Wela Kahoe ‘of the 334th Fighter Squadron of the 4th Fighter Group, 8th Air force flown (shared) by Cap Bill Hollander and Cap Stanley Anderson based at Debden, England in January 1944.

The aircraft is finished in Olive Drab upper surfaces and Neutral Grey under surfaces.  The aircraft has the front half of the nose cowl finished in White and a White stripe across the fin.  The aircraft is finished with the early style cowl cooling flaps, Curtiss Electric narrow blade propeller and no wing pylons.  A spear wielding running Hawaiian is painted on the left side of the nose cowl.

  • P-47D-11-RE Sno 42-75429 WZ*S ‘Eileen‘ of the 84th Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group, 8th Air force flown by 1st Lt Frank Oiler based at Duxford, England in early Summer 1944.  The aircraft is finished in Olive Drab upper surfaces and Neutral Grey under surfaces.

The aircraft has a Black and White checker scheme painted on the nose cowl, Black and White invasion stripes painted on the lower aft fuselage and lower wing surfaces and a white stripe across the fin.  The aircraft is finished with the cutback style cowl cooling flaps, Curtis Electric narrow blade propeller and centreline and wing pylons.  A large cartoon of a pistol and sabre wielding Bee or Wasp is painted on the left hand side just below the windscreen.
