Zotz Decals latest in its line of fine quality decal sheets depicts the SAAB J35F/J Draken in 1/48 scale.

This sheet contains markings for four aircraft and two of these are particularly striking schemes one depicting a display aircraft and a special scheme for the last operations of the Draken.

The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent register.  As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience with Zotz decals that I have used in the past is that the decals have to be handled carefully and snuggle down into the surface detail well.  I always use decal setting solution but this is not necessary.  The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.

A complete set of data decals are provided as well as full national markings are provided along with detailed instructions for placement.

Markings are provided for four aircraft as follows:

  • J35J Draken 35540 of 2 Sqn F10 wing. Call sign Bla 40 in October 1998. The aircraft was painted in FS36173 Blue Grey and natural metal lower surface and Gloss Blue FS1505 upper surface.  The upper surface has a large skull in a top hat painted on it and a set of gold Egyptian style wings painted below.  The vertical tail has an Ace of Spades painted on it. The lower surface of the wings has the high visibility Swedish national markings painted on them.  This scheme was to celebrate final operations of the Draken in Swedish service in October 1998.

  • J35F.2 Draken 35559 of 1 Sqn F10 wing. Call sign Johan Rod 57 in 1985. The aircraft was painted in FS36173 Blue Grey and natural metal lower surface and FS34086 Dark Olive Green, FS35042 Dark Blue upper surface.  The upper surface has the large number 57 painted on it in white.  The vertical tail has a cartoon white ghost painted on a red disc and the same white ghost is painted on the underside of the wing canards.  The upper and lower surface of the wings has the high visibility Swedish national markings painted on them.  The scheme was for an air show in 1985.

  • J35F.1 Draken 35468 of 1 Sqn F10 wing. Call sign Johan Rod 57 in 1985. The aircraft was painted in FS36173 Blue Grey and natural metal lower surface and FS34086 Dark Olive Green, FS35042 Dark Blue upper surface.  The upper surface has the large number 57 painted on it in white.  The vertical tail painted gloss red and has a cartoon white ghost painted on it.  The large white numbers are over painted and the camouflage paint is much brighter in this area. The upper and lower surface of the wings has the high visibility Swedish national markings painted on them. The scheme was for an air show in 1998 and was flown by Cpt Vincent Ahlin.

  • J35J Draken 35607 of 2 Sqn F10 wing. Call sign Johan Bla 07. The aircraft was painted in FS36463 Light Grey and natural metal lower surface and FS36152 Medium Grey upper surface.  The upper surface has the large number 07 painted in bright red.  The vertical tail has the squadron emblem painted on it.
