A-7E Corsair II
Trumpeter's 1/32 scale A-7E Corsair II is available online from Squadron
This is the Trumpeter's 1/32 scale A7-E Corsair II in one of two experimental schemes worn by VA-22 aircraft in 1986.
Aftermarket items include the Avionix resin cockpit set and the Zactomodel upgrade set. The latter really transforms the appearance of the model by providing a vacform windscreen and canopy, along with resin framing that stands about 3mm higher than the kit items.
It also includes a larger radome and a deeper intake lip to correct the rather flattened shape below the Trumpeter offering.
Additional pipe work and leads were added to the avionics bays and main wheel wells using copper wire and fine aluminium rod.
The upper and lower surfaces of the fuselage were re-engraved as the panel lines in these areas were initially a little too restrained.
A word of caution – if building this model with the wings extended, join the inner and outer halves of each wing together (and reinforce the joint with sheet plastic) before joining the upper and lower surfaces. If not, the join is very fragile and difficult to achieve neatly.
The model is was sprayed freehand using Humbrol enamels throughout.
All colours were faded considerably to help achieve a weathered look.
Markings are from Two Bobs Decals.
Panel lines were subtly accentuated using a sharp HB pencil then areas of grime and streaks applied by airbrush and washes using brown and dark grey over a protective coat of Future.
The final finish was achieved with a 70/30 mix of Humbrol matt and satin clear.
