Trumpeter 1/32 & AM 1/48 scale
Bogue's Avengers

by Rafi Ben-Shahar

TBF-1 Avenger

Trumpeter's 1/32 scale TBF-1 is available online from Squadron

Description

These two Avengers (TBF-1) models represent aircraft that served aboard the Bogue (CVE9) during 1944.

Trumpeter's 1/32 model (with the wings folded) had the engine detailed with the Eduard phtoetch set. Accurate Miniature's Avenger had only some scratch made parts added.

Trumpeter's model is well engineered although the rivetting is coarse. Nonetheless, this can be corrected with minimal shading applied and some knife work. If I was to do this kit again, I would skip the engine detailing in favour of scratch making the engine plug wires; the only visible component missing from the kit when the engine is not exposed.

In conclusion, while Trumpeter's model is recommended to Avenger fans, Accurate Miniature's model remains the pinnacle for 1/48 model builders.
