Tamiya's 1/72 scale
P-47D Thunderbolt

P-47D Thunderbolt

Tamiya's 1/72 scale P-47D Razorback is available online from Squadron

Description

Presented here are a few images of Tamiyas’ gorgeous 1/72 P-47D Razorback kit.

The model is built straight from the box, with the exception of masking take seat belts to offer relief over the decal belts provided. The base of the canopy was also thinned slightly to allow installation in the open position. Kit decal was used, opting for Pacific-based 58th FG aircraft no.223224 ‘Sleepy Time Gal’, which I found as the more colorful of the two.

Painting is done with Tamiya and Gunze acrylics, with most of the colors custom mixed to achieve desired shade. These include the cockpit green, upper fuselage olive drab and underside neutral grey. Light grey area under the cowling and on the vertical tail is actually Mr. Surfacer 1200, straight from the bottle. Weathering is achieved with artists’ oil, and the chippings done with a silver color pencil. The model is finished with a coat of Tamiya clear mixed with flat base.

Overall it is quite the enjoyable model to work on, and looks great right from the box. Kudos to Mr. Tamiya.
