The Amstrong Albermarle is a Second World War medium bomber. It was the first British aircraft with tricycle landing gear.
It's construction was made with non-strategic material including wood and steel tubes but due its poor performance this short-lived bomber was rapidly converted to a glider tug.
This is my Amstrong Albemarle from Valom at 1/72 scale.
Valom offers two version of this aircraft: bomber version and towing tug version.
This kit is the bomber version.
Due to its short run construction, this kit has some difficulties.
The two most difficult aspects are the the cockpit floor, which is too large and the tail, which is too small
For the floor, the easy solution is to sandpaper it.
But the best solution is to thin the fuselage interior to adjust it and therefore preserve its details and its width
For the tail, I have separated the elevator.
I also had to this the support with sandpaper.
Once the elevator is deflected, you can't really notice that its support is too small
The last difficulty relates to the canopy. Plenty of test fitting is required to align it with the fuselage, but even then the result is not as good as I would have hoped.
But even after these difficulty, the look of this model is great.
