When I was finishing a 1/48 scale SBD-3 several years ago, I wanted some photo-etched ring sights for the rear gunner’s twin .50 cals.  While I eventually found some, I had to steal them from an etched set for a different aircraft kit – which of course when built would now be without sights on its own guns.

This neat little set from Brengun does away with this problem.

As the (largely) aircraft-focused arm of AFV aftermarket company Hauler, Brengun produces a number of interesting 1/144, 1/72 and 1/48 etch and resin sets, as well as what I understand is a good 1/72 injected plastic Ba 349 Natter.

This fret of 1/48 ring gunsights is one of Brengun’s smallest sets.  Deceptively simple-looking at first glance, the fret contains 72 gunsights in at least five different sizes and styles (some of the variations are so close that it’s difficult to tell them apart).  This means you’ll have plenty of spares in case you make a mistake, which for me is pretty frequently when I’m working with parts this small and fragile.

Another bonus is that the sights are only connected to the fret by a single strand of metal, which makes the job of separating and trimming them much easier.  It also largely eliminates the chance of unsightly nubs or scars around the edge of the sights, which would be very difficult to clean up on items this delicate.

This is a very useful etched sheet which I am sure will come in handy for many years.

Highly recommended.
