Hannants’ range of 1/48th Spitfire decals continues to expand with this set featuring high back and bubble top Mk XVIs spanning the period 1944 to 1949.

Sheet X48-128 features an assortment of Spitfires based in Britain and abroad spanning the period from 1944 to 1949. Roundels and fin flashes are included. The full colour A4 markings sheet is well done noting published references to support the colour scheme callout, and the appropriate Xtracolor or Xtracrylix paints for your build.

  1. Spitfire LF. Mk. XVIe SM311/ DN-P 416 (RCAF) Sqn, B56/Evere  December 1944.

  2. Mk. LFD Mk. XVIe SM309/ AU-H, 421 (RCAF) Sqn, 1945.

  3. LF Mk.XVI TB794/ YT-2, 65 Sqn RAF Bentwaters in 1945..

  4. LF XVI TD240/ WX-V,302 Sqn, 131 Wg, 2TAF, Germany 1945.

  5. Mk XVI SL614/ 6D-A, 631 Sqn, RAF Llanbedr 1949.

  6. Spitfire LF Mk XVIe TD280/ or TB 702 GW-Y 340 (French) Sqn/ Groupe de Chasse (GC) 4/2 “Ile de France” 145 Wg, 2TAF Germany May 1945.

Xtradecal note that the proven identity of option #6 is the subject of intense debate with various serials being argued for this airframe. The sheet offers two front runner candidates for the most likely serials to let individual modellers decide which version they will do. So in effect a seventh option on the sheet!

The decal sheet is beautifully produced, in perfect register and commendably thin. These decals are a joy to work with.

A nice addition to the range of aftermarket marking options for Spitfire enthusiasts.

Recommended.
