Revell 1/32 scale
Heinkel He 219 A
by Roland Sachsenhofer
Revell's 1/32 scale Heinkel He 219 is available online from Squadron.com for USD$49.56!
The He-219 was Germany’s most promising nightfighter design ever to be put into mass production.
Fortunately for the Allies, disputes and differences within the Luftwaffe and the “Reichlsuftfahrtministerium” prevented, that this great fighter could prove its deadly qualities at full scale.
Just about 270 He-219 have been produced from 1943 to war´s end- only about 68 of them did reach NJG 1, the only nightfighter unit that was solely equipped with the He-219.
My models shows a He-219 of 3./NJG 3, stationed in Grove, Denmark, in spring 1945.
Revells “Uhu” proves to be a big kit in some aspect.
Construction is straight forward and not overcomplicated, the fit of parts proves to be satisfying. I used Eduards interior and exterior sets, which I can recommend: the spacious wheel wells for example have plenty of opportunities to show nice details of the gear´s mechanic. Build out of the box there would be a lot of empty place.
The decal sheet provides markings for four interesting He-219s. I was impressed by the high standard of the decals. So even working with touchy walkway-markings was a pleasure- that´s something I really enjoy building kits from Revell.
Last but not least it is to say that the assembled model is of real impressive size and claims corresponding place on the shelf. But I think, that´s something what fits perfect to the impressive and belligerent lines of Heinkel's famous nightfighter!
