Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk Mk.IV

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale P-40N is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Beginning in May 1943, thirty-five Curtiss P-40N fighters were delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force as the Kittyhawk Mk.IV. Fifteen of these were the P-40N-5-CU variant.

This model represents one of these aircraft, U.S. serial number 42-105181, RCAF serial number 857, aircraft "V" of No.135(F) Squadron, RCAF. Stationed at Patricia Bay, British Columbia, in 1944-45, this is the only RCAF Kittyhawk IV for which I was able to find photos showing both sides of the aircraft.

For this model, Hasegawa's 1/48 scale P-40N kit was built pretty much straight-from-the-box, the only additions being photoetched seat harness and a few Waldron placards here and there in the cockpit.

This isn't the easiest kit to build, but I really enjoyed making this model. Tamiya Dark Green, Ocean Grey and Medium Sea were used, and all the necessary markings came from the spare decals box.
