Following up with their fourth World War I Modelling Specials, Windsock Datafiles has released this excellent monograph on the construction of the 1/32 scale Wingnut Wings AEG G.IV bomber.

Ray Rimell leads the charge in building the big kit and does so with an extensive build log. Littered though Ray’s excellent build are some excellent black and white photos with explanatory text that compliment the build as it progresses through its various stages.

Six centrefold profiles are supplied by Ronny Bar and the 1918 report compiled by the Ministry of Munitions provides an excellent technical assessment of the aircraft including associated diagrams and drawings of the aeroplane’s equipment and systems.

For our fourth Modelling Special, WINDSOCK editor Ray Rimell pulls out all of the stops to showcase the might Wingnut Wings AEG G.IV bomber in a truly comprehensive meld of modelling know-how m carefully selected archive material, special-commissioned all-new Ronny Bar profiles, plus a 1918 facsimile capture report!

Liberally illustrated with over 230 photos, this 64 page modeller;s guide to the AEG G.IV carries an intensive, and exhaustive, build log of the early version taking the reader through the entire assembly stage-by-stage, presenting large, clear colour photos interspersed with full-size close-up details in colour and monochrome to cover all areas: cockpits; armament; Daimler Benz engines and ordnance being among many aspects covered within the packed pages. Along the way, the author describes how he enhanced interior and cockpit areas, applied the daunting overall hexagonal decal covering in a unique and totally practical operation, as well  as providing exhaustive painting tips and rigging guidance. An easy way to attach and re-attach bomb loads also described.

Six brand new Ronny Bar profiles are produced to generous size and future as a pull-out centrefold, whilst the full 1918 Ministry of Munitions report of capture ‘G105’ provides modellers a unique reference that with its contemporary details and sketches explores most every facet of these fascinating WWI German bombers. Each and every stage of the kit construction is careful scrutinised from cutting the very first cockpit parts from their runners to finally pressing the varnished aircrews in place. This is a real modelling tour de force and our fourth modelling Special is destined to become and instant classic!”

Conclusion

An outstanding publication that will answer all of the questions that you have when building the Wingnut Wings AEG G.IV bomber. Ray Rimell has done an excellent job in bringing this giant model to life. Combined with the extensive historical data provided, this monograph should be kept in easy arms reach when building the model. It’s a great read too. Recommended
