Airfix will be adding a Car Door Typhoon to its 1/24 scale range later this year. The bubbletop version is a magnificent kit, and I have no reason to think that the Car Door won't be too.

Xtradecal has been quick off the mark with a new decal sheet offering five alternative markings for this forthcoming kit.

Details are as follows. All are finished in the mid-war Day Fighter Scheme of Ocean Grey and Dark Green upper surfaces over Medium Sea Grey lowers:

  • JR365 HE-P 263 Sqn RAF Harrowbeer 1944. Finished with yellow ID bands on the upper wings and leading edges, and black and white special ID bands on the lower wings.

  • R7698 Z-Z 609 Sqn Wng/Co Denis E.Gillan RAF Duxford 1942. Finished with yellow ID bands on the upper wings and leading edges.

  • DN323/Y 451 (RAAF) Sqn Egypt 1943, finished in Middle Stone, Dark Earth and Azure Blue.

  • EK273 JE-DT 195 Sqn S/L Don Taylor RAF Ludham 1943; Finished with yellow ID bands on the upper wings and leading edges, and black special ID bands on the lower wings

  • R8224 Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough 1942. Finished with white nose and spinner, yellow ID bands on the upper wings and leading edges, and black and white special ID bands on the lower wings

One full set of national markings are supplied.

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded A4 sheet. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all five aircraft. Stencils are not included.

Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

This release offers some interesting and colourful options for anyone planning to build the forthcoming 1/24 scale Car Door Typhoon.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to Hannants for the review sample
