Airfix has recently released an impressive, all new 1/48 scale Meteor F.8 kit.

Xtradecal has added a number of marking options for modellers buying these kits with three new decal sheets. Tonight we are reviewing the first set, Item No. X48158, with eight sets of 1/48 scale markings for British, Australian, Syrian and Belgian Meteor F.8s.

 

 

Details are as follows:

  • RAF

    • WF677/MS Wg Com Maurice Shaw, Wing Leader 19, 72 and 85 Sqns RAF Aldergrove 1957;

    • VZ495 ZD-K 222 Sqn RAF Leuchars 1950s;

    • WK784 604(County of Middlesex) Sqn RAF Nth Weald 1953;

    • VZ482/C 610 Sqn Camo

  • RAAF

    • A77-316 77 Sqn Sgt J.Kichenside 'The Korean Kid' and

    • A77-15 77 Sqn W/O R. Turner 'Elyane', both Kimpo S.Korea 1951;

  • Syrian AF No 1-9 1956 Desert Camo.

  • Belgian AF EG-47 MS-G 13th Day Fighter Wing Koksujde 1950s

One full set of national markings are supplied for RAF/RAAF, Syrian Air Force and Belgian Air Force.

For the two Australian options, the instructions correctly show the early canopy wth the metal fairing over the rear section (Part F1 on the clear sprue), but please note that the clear ADF fairing (Part F4 on the clear sprue of the Airfix kit but not mentioned in the instructions) should also be fitted to the mid-upper spine. Two whip antennae should be installed aft of the fairing too. A couple of short sections of stretched sprue will do nicely for these.

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across two folded double-sided A4 sheets. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all eight aircraft. Stencils are not included.

 

 

Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

This release offers some interesting and colourful options for those building the 1/48 scale Airfix Meteor F.8 kit.

I wish I had these a couple of weeks ago!
