This Xtradecal release in three parts covers colourful US Navy A-7B/E Corsairs. For me this first look has become a case of the decal sheets tempting me to by some kits as I disposed of my Fujimi A-7’s some time ago!

In each case the decals come supplied in Xtradecal’s usual A5 polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its carrier or station location and applicable time period is given for each subject. FS 595 colour codes are provided, and unsurprisingly, equivalent Xtracolor and Xtracrlix paint codes are also listed.

The decals look to be superbly printed with crisp registration and excellent colour density. Some recent Xtradecal sets I have reviewed had a Microscale Decals logo, whereas these only feature the Xtradecal’s brand-name, so I am unsure if they too have been printed by Microscale Decals; although their style suggests that they may have been.

Each set covers four options; all of which are colourful schemes, and quite appealing in my opinion. Each option includes individual aircraft markings, national insignia and stenciling. The options covered are:

Part 1:

  • A-7B, 154370, AF/500, VA-205 Green Falcons, NAS Atlanta, 1976;

  • A-7E, 158830, AC/300, VA-37 Bulls, USS Saratoga, 1978;

  • A-7E, 158673, AC/402, VA-105 Gunslingers, USS Saratoga, 1972; and

  • A-7E, 160866, NG/300, VA-145 Blue Diamonds, USS Constellation, 1981.

Part 2:

  • A-7B, 154479, NM/401, VA-215 Barn Owls, USS Franklin D.Roosevelt, Bi-Centennial, 1976;

  • A-7E, 156831, NG/331, VA-146 Blue Diamonds, USS Constellation, 1978;

  • A-7E, 157563, AG/500, VA-12 Clinchers, USS Independence, 1972;
