Tamiya's 1/48 scale
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I
Cockpit Progress

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I

Meng's 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II is available online from Squadron for USD$59.99

Description

I have spent a bit of quality time with the new Tamiya 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.I cockpit. I think this is Tamiya's best 1/48 scale cockpit ever. Detail is just fantastic. In fact, I am trying to think of a better all-plastic 1/48 scale single-seat fighter cockpit and I'm struggling to suggest anything so far.

I have put together a number of sub-assemblies and left them unglued at this stage to make painting easier. It is just about ready for paint now.

Once the sub-assemblies were complete, I dry-fitted them together. Fit has to be experienced to be believed. The way the cockpit is designed, it seems to me that the sub-assemblies won't need to be glued together at all. Once the fuselage halves are joined, they will be locked precisely in place.

I've assembled this cockpit as the closed canopy version BTW, and I will be fitting the pilot later too. I've built it as a late Mk.I cockpit. Alternative parts are included for the earlier version cockpit.

Looking forward to cracking out the airbrush...
