16 parts in grey resin.

Review Type

First Look.

Advantages:

Includes 4 x three different styles of warhead; high level of detail; perfect casting; simple installation.

Disadvantages:

No instructions.

Recommendation:

CAT4's LAU-33 Zuni missiles will be a well-detailed, simple and interesting variation for your early Skyhawks and Phantoms. It's a shame that there are no instructions provided though, as reference on typical warheads used and mounting seems scarce. This will be a handy accessory to use with your CAT4 A-4A / A4D-1 conversion and the separately available decal set.

FirstLook

CAT4 has released a new resin set of two pairs of LAU-33 Zuni Rocket Launchers in 1/48 scale. These appear to have been typically used on early A-4 Skyhawks and F-4 Phantoms.

The set comprises 16 parts perfectly cast in light grey resin.

They are packed in a clear ziplock bag with a simple cardboard header.

Detail is excellent, with raised and recessed surface textures nicely rendered.

CAT4 supplies four sets of three different warheads, so you have plenty of choice for your loadout.

The only shortcoming is a complete lack of instructions. Google is usually my friend in these situations, but there is almost nothing that I could find online that shows how these pairs of launchers are mounted to rails or to each other, and what combination of warheads might have been used.

If any of HyperScale's US Navy ordnance experts can shed some light on the mounting configuration and use of the LAU-33 Zuni, especially on early Skyhawks, please let me know and I will add any information to this review.

Conclusion

CAT4's LAU-33 Zuni missiles will be a well-detailed, simple and interesting variation for your early Skyhawks and Phantoms.

It is a pity that there are no instructions provided though, as reference on typical warheads used and mounting seems scarce.

This will be a handy accessory to use with your CAT4 A-4A / A4D-1 conversion and the separately available decal set.

Thanks to CAT4 or the sample.
