BarracudaCast has just released a range of accessories and improvements for Revell's 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.IX.

Like the Spitfire Mk.II before it, this kit is like the Curate's Egg - it is good in parts.

One of the bits that is not so good is the late-version, long Aerovee carburettor intake. The kit's three-piece assembly fails to depict the subtle contours of the real thing.

Revell's intake is also blunt and misses out on the undercut between the top front of the intake lip and the bottom of the engine cowling.

Finally, the kit part is presented in two halves, so you'll need to fill and sand the join seam.

Enter BarracudaCast to the rescue with their replacement Aerovee intake.

This perfectly cast resin part is presented in one piece, and captures the subtle curves of the intake perfectly. The intake lip is thin, and it also depicts the undercut.

Being one piece, there is no centreline seam to clean up either.

The resin part is hollowed out on the inside surfaces and rebated at the edges, which should mate accurately with the plastic engine cowling sides.

The single resin part is cast onto relatively thin attachments that should be pretty fast and easy to clean up before assembly. Just be careful when removing the centre spine.

This is a high quality and subtly detailed resin improvement for Revell's 1/32 scale Spitfire IXc late-style Aerovee long carby intake. The difference really is noticeable.
