Chance-Vought F4U-1D Corsair

Description

This is the Tamiya 1/48th scale F4U-1D Corsair kit built straight from the box (with some modifications). It was piloted by Lt. Cdr. Roger Hedrick of VF-84 from the USS Bunker Hill in February 1944. Lt. Commander Hedrick finished the war with 12 air victories and 4 enemy aircraft damaged.

Please excuse the unconventional setting (this was a Navy plane), but I got tired of waiting for the aircraft carrier deck I ordered to arrive and too eager to get to my next aircraft to scratchbuild one! So I had to settle for a setting that’s at least in that part of the world.

The Tamiya F4U-1D kit has several inaccuracies that are relatively easy to correct if found before the model is too far along. Even though this model isn’t entirely accurate (I forgot to remove the small scoop on the starboard side of the cowling), it is much better than it was thanks to Patrick Moore. Thanks bud, I do appreciate the help.
