North American F-100D

by Jean-Christian Houg

F-100D
 3EC and 11EC

Italeri's F-100D in 1/72 scale is available online at Squadron.com

Introduction

The F-100D Super Sabre has been used by French Air Force for many years in the role of Nuclear Alert and Interception. 3EC was based in LAHR AFB (Germany) and 11EC was in Djibouti.

Construction

This is Italeri's 1/72 scale F-100D Super Sabre.

Cockpit

The cockpit is good as supplied.  The instrument panel is engraved and can be painted and dry brushed to highlight the detail. The seat is quite basic and should be replaced by Aeroclub's item.

Canopy

The canopy comes as a closed item. I used real aluminium frames for an authentic metal finish.

Painting

The fuselage needed some attention to prepare for the Metal Finish. Here is is the method I used for the F-100. First I polished the airframe very carefully, then painted it in a high gloss green. I then polished the gloss green to get it extremely glossy. ModelMaster Metalizer was then applied and carefully buffed.
