Grumman TBM ASW-3

Grumman TBM ASW-3 Avenger

Accurate Miniatures' TBM-3 Avenger is available online at Squadron.com

I have had my arm twisted to submit a few photos of my 1/48 scale Accurate Miniatures TBM-3 Avenger.

This model was one of the most complex kits that this old Turkey has ever built, but with the instructions in the kit and the help of Mike Belcher's TBM ASW3 conversion set I was able to produce a reasonable reproduction of an RCN Turkey.

The conversion was not too difficult but I did have some problem with the rear greenhouse cut-out as noted in Mike's instructions.

The model was finished using PollyScale acrylics including clear gloss/clear flat with the decals. The engine received a bit of extra detailing but nothing else was added.

The bomb bay was a bit tricky but with a little effort I finally got the doors to fit. The position of the rocket launcher as depicted in the conversion kit was not quite right and the rockets were therefore omitted.

Overall, this was a pleasure to build both from the AM kit and Mike Belcher's conversion
