F-104G Starfighter

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale F-104G is available online from Squadron.com

Description

This is Hasegawa's 1/48 scale F-104G "Nato" Starfighter built straight from the box, including decals and color assignments.

Spring is always a busy time for me and I wanted to be able to keep my hand in the hobby while most of my head was otherwise occupied with work and home. The F-104G kit filled that niche perfectly.

Construction was straightforward with only a minor amount of filler needed to clean-up seams and small gaps around the cockpit area.

I was almost afraid to use the kit decals because of some disastrous experiences in the past, but they went on largely without incident. After spraying the final flat-coat however, some silvering of some of the decals became noticeable.

Following the excellent advice of some of the HS discussion group folks, I made minute incisions in the decal film and repeatedly applied Solvaset and the silvering completely disappeared. (I didn't know you could do that through a gloss coat and a flat coat!).

All in all, a great kit that looks fine right from the box.
