Ki-84 Hayate "Frank"

by Brian Criner

Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate "Frank"

 Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Ki-84 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

This is Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Ki-84 Hayate "Frank".

The only accessories added to the model were True Details wheels, a seat from Jaguar and Aeromaster decals.

Weathering of the model was accomplished by first pre-shading with Dark Umber, then painting the top coat with Testors Japanese Army Green(all paints are Model Master Enamels). The "chipped" paint appearance was accomplished by dipping a fine wire in Testors silver or chrome, and carefully "twirling" the wire over the surface of the model. The "wave" decal, though awkward to work with, went on nicely. In order to prevent "crimping" of the decal, I cut it into front and back halves for each side, and just pushed the pieces together while they were wet.

This model appeared previously on Hyperscale, but was photographed with a first generation, poor quality digital camera.
