Kawanishi N1K1 Kyofu Type 11 Rex

Description

Here is Tamiya's 1/48 scale Kyofu kit.

New and improved details include:

  • holes drilled for fuselage machine guns,

  • new pitot tube,

  • wing mounted machine guns,

  • wing tip lights,

  • aerial mast & line,

  • loop antenna,

  • gun sight,

  • pilot's map,

  • photo-etched seat & belts,

  • other cockpit details.

The model is airbrushed in Tamiya acrylics over metalised undercoat then chipped & rubbed back before being weathered in artist oils.

All markings are painted on - no decals were used.

The Kyofu was undoubtedly the most troublesome and frustrating kit I've ever built!! Many serious set backs had to be overcome. So many things went wrong that it would take at least a couple of hours to list just some of them here - it was unbelievable!

Then, when completed in 1999, it became the only model in the history of IPMS NSW to win 4 major awards on the same day! No doubt there was a lesson here to be learnt for me. Worthwhile persistence and determination had paid off.

The model is currently on display at Battlebridge Book Shop, Parramatta in Sydney Australia.
