MV-22 Osprey

Italeri's 1/72 scale V-22 Osprey is available online at Squadron.com

Description

Here are four shots of my model of the MV-22 Osprey. It is built from ESCI's 1/72 V-22 kit with significant modifications.

This model represents production airframe #12 which was embarked on USS SAIPAN (LHA-2) over a period of three months in 1999 for test and evaluation. I was assigned to SAIPAN during this period. Interestingly the real aircraft has limited panel lines, since the airframe is a spun carbon fiber composite built up into sections. Therefore, I had to fill most of the panel lines.

Other modifications include:

  • Heavily reworked nacelles and rotors including custom resin

  • Scratchbuilt cockpit and forward cargo bay

  • Rebuilt wheel wells and landing gear

  • Correct antenna and sensor suite added

  • Repositioned flaps and horizontal stabilizer

Markings are from ESCI and various Microscale sheets.
