Boeing P-12E

Hasegawa's 1/32 scale P-12E is available online at Squadron.com®

Description

This P-12E is the old Hasegawa's 1/32 special series re-released a few years ago. The model features raised rivets and panel lines. The detail is excellent and the fit of parts is equally good.

I decided to build the kit OOB apart from rescribing panel lines and have those fine raised rivets
reserved. However the sanding procedure inevitably get some of the rivets off, so I cut some of the 0.2mm diameter fine copper wires and put those through pre-drilled holes where the original rivets were; then glued then with CA them from the back of the parts. When the CA cured completely, I trimmed the wires even and lightly sand them to round them off.

Other than that the construction is pretty straight forward. However the painting was far more challenging than the construction! The red area was pre-painted with gloss white to give a better sheen of the red colour and then shine red is shot on. when the red is dry, carefully mask off the outline of the red area and spray the olive drab. When the Olive Drab is dry, mask the along the red pattern, leaving a even narrow gap about 1mm wide and then carefully spray the black trim. Then time to peel all of the masking off and the result is sheer striking!

0.12mm fishing line flying wire finished the model.

Despite the good fit of the plastic parts, the decals are a bit translucent and look a little thick. That's the only draw back I found building this all time classic.
