Description

This model is a combination of Italeri's Panzer F1/F2/G kit and the old Tamiya Panzer IVH kit to make a 1/35 scale Afrika Korps Panzer IV F2.

The lower hull of the Italeri kit is combined with the turret from the Tamiya kit. The Italeri turret has a pair of odd steps on the rear plate that should not be there. Early turret fittings where removed from the Italeri turret as necessary and put on the Tamiya turret. Other details, such as the correct bolts above and below the vision ports were added. On The Mark's PE set for the Panzer IV was used extensively - it is a very nice set. All tool brackets were made from the PE set, with reworked tools added. The tracks are the Italeri kit tracks. Link by link was available, but I thought the kit tracks weren't that bad. I simply used the cantilevered pin technique to get the track sag I wanted.

The kit is finished with Humbrol paints and markings are dry transfer. The '7 Club' marking is somewhat hypothetical, photos of playing card symbol markings are rare. FYI, the '7 Spade' marking included in the kit decals and shown in the artwork of Squadron/Signal's 'Panzer IV in Action' is for a G model. Weathering was done with a drybrush of panzer grey and pastels.

This model took a 2nd place in Axis - Closed Top AFV's at the 1989 IPMS Nationals.
