Supermarine Spitfire IX

Supermarine Spitfire IX

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Spitfire IX is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Despite the ongoing controversy regarding Hasagawa's dimensions for its Spitfire Mk.IXc , I chose to go ahead and build the kit. Several images of the finished project are attached.

Few modifications were needed to build an accurate Mk.IX. I chose to build the kit OTB using the decal sheet provided.

I removed the bulges on the upper wing surface over the wheel wells by carefully masking the panel and attacking them with my Dremel MIni Mite. Seatbelts were made from lead foil.

Paints used were a combination of Aeromaster grey enamels, Model Master RAF Dark Green, and Tamiya sky, which most closely match the fuselage band decal. Nylon thread was used for HF and IFF aerials.

Panel lines were accented with Burnt Umber oils thinned with Naptha. Exhaust stains were shot using a combination of Polly Scale Oily Black and Gunze Soot.
