Fairey Swordfish

by Rafi Ben-Shahar

Fairey Swordfish

This is Tamiya's Swordfish in 1/48 scale.

The inspiration for the model came from a review in the French "Replic" magazine. The contrast between the upper wing camouflage and the white sides and undersurfaces really grabbed my attention.  The model construction went like a dream and I enjoyed every moment of it. I used Tamiya's photoetched set, although I would improvise my own parts if I was to build another Swordfish.

Additional detailing that greatly enhance the final look of the model include control wires, anchor rings, folding wing release levers and support wires.

The conspicuous weathering of the fabric was based on colour photographs that many Swordfish fans would be familiar with.
