Tiger I E (mid-production)

Tamiya's 1/35 scale mid-production Tiger I is available online from Squadron.com

Description

This is a Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I Ausführung E Tamiya 1/35, Box number 35202.

The subject vehicle is the tank that Lt.Otto Carius and his crew used during "Malinava War" on 22nd July 1944. The model can also be built as "213" of Feldwebel Kerscher or "215" of Lt. Nienstedt. All parts are good and all necessary details are available and correct.

First of all, like other tanks of the era, I painted it dark-yellow (Tamiya TS-3 spray lacquer) as the base color. After well known wheel rounds (humbrol -33 matt black), I used Humbrol Matt 34 white for a winter wash.

For weathering I used pencil and black (or different coloured) dust pastels. I wanted to be loyal to Otto Carius' own vehicle, so one front wheel has been taken off both sides of the running gear to prevent the snow and mud accumulation.

For weathering the tracks I used rust-coloured chalk pastels and Humbrol-56 (aluminium) in the necessary places. I could take the crew off like some other museum models but, I usually make my models as "still using at this era" not "used at that era". Finally two unique aspects of this tank are one front light, two missing front wheels at both side.

In conclusion, to those who plan to build this model, please note that the tracks are NOT one piece vinyl, they are individual. I don't ever use them - these tracks are from my spare parts box!
