D3A1 Val

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Val is available online from Squadron.com

Description

The Model

Here is Hasegawa's D3A1 Val in 1/48th scale.

The flaps, elevators, cockpit and canopy are from CMK. In my opinion, in this case it is not necessery to use the CMK cockpit. There is not so much to see inside due to the figures being installed for the diorama. However the thin vacform canopy is very helpful, as well as the instrument panel and gunsight.

The resin flaps are little bit disapointing due to their thick trailing edge and uneven cross-section.

The "spinning" propeller is made from a sheet of clear plastic

The carrier deck is a plastic sheet with scribed planks painted dark grey with off white strips.

Paints and Markings

Gunze Sangyo paints.

The hinomaru are airbrushed.

Red ,yellow and blue strips, letters and numbers are Hasegawa's decal from their new Kate kit.

Figures

2 (pilot and gunner) + 16 Tamiya repositioned pieces (none are the same).

Camera

Canon PowerShot S20
