Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3a

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is a Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3a in 1/48 scale from the Tamiya kit, in Swiss Flugwaffe markings circa 1944.

This particular aircraft (J-371) was one of the kind since it sported "D-Day-like" stripes. This kind of high vis markings was too similar to that carried by Allied aircraft and was only tested on J-371.

The basic Tamiya kit was made with some minor modifications to the engine cowling, which were required due to different fuselage machine guns (there should be more done, but I just wanted to paint this kit).

All markings were painted except white J-371.

This project was inspired by a profile on the back cover of AJ Press "Bf 109" Monograph. Somehow, I could not resist this colour scheme, which looks really unusual on Bf 109.

I would like to thank two fellow HyperScalers for their help with this kit: Michael Kirk of Switzerland for sending me heaps of info on Swiss 109s and translating some of the Swiss Bf-109 webpage ( http://www.messerschmitt109.com/ ) and Werner Scheibling of Germany for providing me with J-371 decals from his spares box.

Thanks again guys.
