Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7

by Christian Bruer

Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7/Trop
Lt. Werner Schroer, April 1941, Africa

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7/Trop is available online from Squadron.com

Description

The model is from Tamiya in 1/48 scale. I built the model straight from the box and only added new wheels from True Details.

To build this model was very easy because everything fits together beautifully.

I used Xtracolor paints. I like this plane because of its interesting colour scheme. Most of the desert planes of the German Luftwaffe used only a light blue (RLM 78) under surface and desert yellow (RLM 79) for the upper surface. Here we see a mottled plane with light blue, desert yellow and green (RLM 80). The decals are from War Eagle This sheet includes also decals for a Bf 109F-4 flown by Werner Schroer in November 1942.

After a coat of varnish I started weathering with water colours.

Finishing touches included small parts like the landing gear, canopy, antenna and the wires for the canopy and the sand filter.
