Description

This model represents an aircraft I used to refuel during fire season at Santa Barbara's USFS Air Tanker Base in the 1970s.

I used AMT's 1/48 scale Tigercat kit with a water bomber conversion kit by Ventura Hobbies. The slurry tank is resin and quite heavy, and seeing how spindly the landing gear were on the AMT kit, I tried to thin the walls of the tank as much as possible before installing it.

I finished my Tigercat using Model Master Insignia White, Chevrolet Engine Red, and SNJ metallic paint.

Decals are aftermarket (I don't recall who made them).

I'm sill waiting for the nose strut to break off, but AMT made a beautiful kit overall.
