Description

Here is Hasegawa's 1/48 scale F-86F Sabre.

I bought this kit a couple of years ago in Montreal for CAN$18.00, and was so impressed with the detail that I delayed starting it for over a year in case I spoilt it!

When I did make a start I decided to do a straight out-of-the-box build, adding only harnesses from Tamiya masking tape and etched buckles from Eduard.

I also removed the seam line on the canopy, necessitated by the blown cross-section. I had some decals from Cutting Edge which included this Saudi AF machine, the notes emphasised the faded state of this particular plane so I set out to weather it. I'd never tried pre-shading before though I'd seen it demonstrated in Tamiya Magazine and was suitably impressed.

I was reasonably happy with my first attempt, after which I ran blue-grey watercolour into all the panel lines. After I put the decals on the green of the national markings looked far too strong compared to the faded airframe so I sprayed (yet another) coat of the grey over them to tone everything down.

I sealed everything in with a matt varnish.
