GMC F3 USAAF Petrol Tanker

Description

Here is my GMC F3 USAAF 750 gallon petrol tanker in 1/48 scale.

The kit is from DES. There address is

DES, 27 rue des Hauts de Bonne Eau,94500 Champigny sur Marne, France.

I found this kit in Belgium on my continual search for accessories. This truck was typical of the tankers that served American airfields of the World War Two.

This resin kit was badly warped, so I had to produce various parts from scratch.

I have replaced axels, wheels, back plate-springs and the motor from the kit.

The running boards for the driver's cabin were covered with Alu - paper from a renowned French cigarette

I did not have references for the engine, so I imporvised!

The ranker and rear chassis, including the scratchbuilt fire extinguisher

The shock absorbers at the reverse are from alufoile of a Fast-food packaging.

The grille was framed with lead foil to add more of a three-dimensional effect.

Hangar operations by night. Note: This very beautiful hangar is a masterpiece from our late friend Sigi Browder.
