Accurate Miniatures' 1/48 scale SBD-1 Dauntless is still available online from Squadron

Description

There have been many articles written about Accurate Miniature's SBD series. These are beautifully designed kits which filled the void for a quality version of this subject.

Having already built the Hasagawa release in the well known tri-color scheme, I wanted to dress this classic dive bomber in something a bit different. The Atlantic scheme has always looked impressive on WWII naval subjects, so I decided to go with the dark gull gray over white.

The kit was built per instructions, with the addition of lead foil seatbelts. The canopy framework is done with the controversial Fast Frames. I was satisfied the frames in spite of several complaints about this product line. Weathering was kept to a minimum, but included post shading panels on the upper and lower surfaces.
