Skyraider

Skyraider

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Skyraider is available online from Squadron

Description

This is the Tamiya 1/48 scale U.S. Navy A-1H Skyraider before the Air Force version was released.

When this kit first came out several years ago they had announced an Air Force version would be following soon but I wasn’t going to wait. Aeromaster had just released several decal sheets for the Skyraider at that time and I choose to do an aircraft from sheet 48-342 “Air War Over Vietnam”. It was “The Proud American”, A-1H, Serial #34555 that was flown by Col. Ed Walsh, 1st Special Operatoins Wing, Nakhon Phanom in July of 1971.

Although I built this a few years ago it is still one of the best kits I have ever done and I remember the kit being trouble free during construction. There’s nothing about this kit I didn’t like and one of the few kits that just seemed to “fall together”.

I have another Tamiya Skyraider sitting on my dusty “to do” shelf. And there’s still four more aircraft on the Aeromaster sheet and I will do another one eventually.
