Eduard's 1/48 scale
Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3

by Richard Nicoletti

Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3

Description

The model depicts a Battle of Britain Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3 of 3./JG 52 flown by Uffz. Karl Wolff while stationed at the Pihen/Calais airfield in France, August 1940.

I purchased the kit at a local club's "Distressed Kit" auction, and was amazed at the level of detail Eduard's 8262 ProfiPACK kit provided in both the plastic parts and decal options. Much better, in my opinion, than their competitor's offerings.

Although Eduard's ProfiPACK kits normally include both masks, PE, and often resin resin replacement parts, as a "Distressed Kit", they were missing from mine.

I used the Eduard EX439 Bf-109E-1/E-3 Mask set on the canopy, and, as I accidently broke off the tail wheel, used the resin rear wheel from the Brassin 648282 Bf-109F Wheel set as a replacement. Due to the kit's engineering, I had to drill out both the tail wheel strut and replacement part and install a pin to hold both in place.

Finishing was accomplished using Tamiya paints weathered with oils.

While Eduard sometimes bundles other manufacturer's kits with their own PE and resin enhancements (Hasegawa's A-4 Skyraider in their Vietnam Scooters kit, Academy's P-38 in their P-38 lineup, etc.), I don't believe you can go wrong with any models marketed as their own. Give any of their Me-109's or Fw-190's a shot, and you will not be disappointed!
