FirstLook

I’ve always had a thing about business jets used by the military, even moreso if they sport camouflage.

This new 1/72 scale kit from Sword instantly grabbed my attention thanks to the wonderful artwork on the box top in its distinctive lizard camouflage used for a time by the US Air Force.

The Raytheon Hawker C-29A (Bae 125-800) can trace its linage all the way back to the Hawker Siddeley Dominie T1 which as many who read this review will know was released first by Airfix way back in 1968. Funny, even as a kid I was drawn to the aircraft due to the box art by Roy Cross.

The kit is presented on three sprues of which two are in medium grey with a total of (wait for it) 54 parts and one in clear consisting of five parts. The surface detail consists of very fine engraved panel lines and given the scale is more than appropriate.

The clear parts exhibit some sinkage on the rear cabin windows but on the same token can be sanded and polished out quite easily.

A six page instruction booklet is included and are well drawn and include a JASDF sample in Red/White and Natural Metal and the fetching USAF example in the 3-color example of two shades of green medium grey.

The kit is rounded out by a very well printed decal sheet by Techmod and a handy mask set for the canopy and fuselage windows.

Conclusion

In this golden age of modelling when companies seemingly bring out kits with ever increasing mega-parts count, this one is a welcome relief, and some would say needed.

You could build this kit in a day, sand and prep the next and paint the following.

In a sense dare say it is old school cool.

For that reason alone, I give this kit full marks.
