Eduard's 1/72 scale
Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6
GUSTAV Pt.1 - Dual Combo

by Brett Green

Description

Here is my fourth build for 2024 - Eduard's 1/72 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 from their GUSTAV Pt.1 Limited Dual Combo boxing.

Check out my detailed in-box review by following this link.

This is a gorgeous kit that concedes almost no compromise to its small size. Detail is impressive and fit is excellent.

I built both the resin BRASSIN cockpit and the kit's standard cockpit to compare. That's the BRASSIN cockpit below.

Apart from the cockpit, the model is built almost straight from the box but not exactly according to the instructions.

The markings are sourced from BarracudaCals' Bf 109 G-6 & G-15 Part 1 (Item No. BC72232). The aircraft on the decal, Blue 62, bears some striking similarities in painting and configuation to the Bf 109 G-6 in the Australian War Memorial.

The Erla canopy, the battery box fairing behind the pilot's head and the long tail wheel strut required for this scheme are included as spare parts on the sprues of the kit.

I based the mis-matching wings, the late-war colours on the fuselage and the tail on the AWM machine. I am fortunate to have been up very close and personal with this aircraft while researching my first book in the 1990s, Augsburg's Last Eagles, still available online from Eagle Editions.

I'll be writing this one up for a detailed article in Issues 226 and 227 of Model Airplane International magazine.

Thanks to Eduard for the sample
