Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4 |

Here is my Hasegawa 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4 built almost straight from the box. This was built as a comparison to the sublime Kotare kit which Chris Wauchop and I had built previously.
The only additions were:
-
Fine Molds Item No. NH1 – WWII German Aircraft Seatbelt Set
-
Eduard Masks Item No. JX008 and
-
EagleCals' Item No. EC#62 – Bf 109 K-4s JG 27 & JG 52.

The Hasegawa kit remains a respectable kit today. In its favour, it is easy to build, features crisply recessed panel lines, is generally accurate in outline and 22 years after its initiual release it remains a good basis for further detailing.

On the other hand there are some shortcomings.
The spine and upper canopy are flattened, the spinner shape wrong, the opening in the spinner for the proprellor blades is lacking the distinctive “keyhole” shape, the cockpit is not really accurate for a Bf 109 K-4, MG muzzles and exhausts not hollowed out, “stick-on” wing bumps and visible holes in the wheel wells, there is no FuG 25 antenna, no supports for Galland Panzer and the tail wheel doors are fixed open.

I will be describing the assembly and painting of this model in a forthcoming book from Doolittle Media - "How to Build the Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4 in 1:32 Featuring Kotare's Kit".
