FirstLook

This set is designed for the recently released Flyhawk kit but I could imagine that it could be adapted to fit any of the other available versions from the likes of Hasegawa and others who produced the 2/3 variant.

The parts represent the 1000hp Wright Cyclone R1820 engine fitted to the roughly 870 early variants of the Dauntless, although nowhere on the box or instructions is there any mention of this engine’s name!

This set comes in a strong little box, the six 3D printed parts are in a zip-lock bag securely wrapped in bubble wrap with a small instruction sheet. The printing of the parts is typical SBS, very fine and super-detailed with all the tiny gizmos on the face of the motor reproduced in all their glory and will benefit careful painting. The oil intake has the most amazingly fine edges and care will be needed in handling it.

Parts are supported on the usual array of printing pillars that should not be too difficult to remove with a good pair of side-cutters or a sharp knife.

Speaking of which, the detailed paint instructions are a bit confusing to follow and will require very careful study before applying paint - lots of arrows and colour labels to be deciphered. The six parts are the cowling, single surface engine face, rear engine mount, oil intake and two exhausts.

If you are intending to build any of the 2/3 variants of the Dauntless, then this is an excellent way of adding that extra detail to the cowling and engine and will reward careful painting with your finest brushes and steadiest hand!

A recommended accessory.

Highly Recommended.
