New from Doolitle Media in their How to Build Series is How to Build the P-40E-N in 1:48 Spotlight on Eduard’s P-40E Warhawk by Brett Green, and what a beauty it is!

The P-40 Warhawk or Kittyhawk is a very well-known single engine, single seat fighter aircraft that was manufactured by Curtiss-Wright at their main production facilities in Buffalo, New York. Arguably, whilst not exuding the same charisma as its peers, it proved itself as a rugged and dependable aircraft that was used extensively by Allied air forces during World War Two with some 13,738 being produced.

The content of the book is as follows:
- Chapter 1: The P-40 in Profile. Four pages in all that provides an overall summary of the P-40 aircraft series.
- Chapter 2: The P-40N Close-Up. Ten pages. This chapter is a real treat as the author takes you on a comprehensive photographic tour of the P-40N that was superbly restored by the late Murray Griffiths at Precision Aerospace Production in Wangaratta, Victoria. There are 42 sharp, clear images that will help you detail your next P-40N model.
- Chapter 3: 1:48 P-40s over the decades. 14 pages in all that takes a look at the older issues of P-40 kits from different manufacturers. Included are AMT P-40N, Revell ProModeler – P-40E, Amtech – both their -E and -L kits, Mauve P-40N, and the Hasegawa -E. The chapter just doesn’t list the kits there is a comprehensive summary of each of kit’s strengths and weaknesses as well as in-construction and completed model images.
- Chapter 4: Eduard’s 1:48 P-40E Royal Class in The Box. A short four-page summary of what you find within Eduard’s Royal Class P-40E kit’s box.
- Chapter 5: Desert Kitty - Building Eduard’s 1:48 P-4-E Warhawk Step by Step. 16 pages covering the author’s build of this stunning new kit from Eduard. A great guide on how to build the Eduard kit with hints on how to make the process a little more “modeller friendly”. A great chapter!
- Chapter 6: Pacific Warhawk – Building the Academy/Mauve P-40N Warhawk. 12 pages covering the Author’s build of the Academy re-release of the Mauve P-40N kit. As with the previous chapter, a comprehensive description of the Authors build of the older but still very nice Academy/Mauve kit giving hints and suggestions on construction and the extensive use of aftermarket parts.
- Appendix: Eduard 1;48 P-40 Kits and Accessories. A single page. A list of Eduard’s 1:48 scale P-40 kits and 3D printed aftermarket parts with illustrations.
The book comprises 68 pages in all printed on good quality paper between thick cardboard covers. The vast majority of illustrations within its pages are in colour with black and white images limited to the WWII era. In the main, the illustrations are large, which shows the detail of the kit’s parts, the construction process and the competed models very well.

All up, an impressive, well written and presented book as far as I am concerned.
Well worth adding to your library.
