Review Type:

First Look

Advantages:

Well-produced sheet with decals that have great colour, register and with minimal carrier film. Useful instructions.

Disadvantages:

Curious name change inside the booklet, but it does not affect the quality of the product.

Conclusion:

If you have one of these kits then this sheet will allow a nicely detailed RAF variant to be built and, with a couple of extra numbers, the final examples, due up until 2027, can be built. These are WT004 and WT005.

Developed in Australia around the turn of this century for the RAAF, the Boeing E-7 Wedgetail uses the airframe of the Boeing 737 as a basis for an airborne early warning and control aircraft. It has been adopted by a couple of other forces, including the RAF as the AEW1.

This decal sheet covers the first three airframes for the RAF, WT001-003 and allows any one of the aircraft to be built from the rather pricey BPK kit. Two sheets of decals are provided in a zip-lock sleeve, one a largish one and a smaller one with the distinctive squadron markings for the tail. The decal are beautifully printed with good colour, excellent register and depth and on a mid-blue sheet that allows paler items to be easily found. The sheet includes stencils and panel lines as well as door markings.

The instruction booklet of eight pages covers the decal locations for each airframe and includes two pages of colour photos of details such as undercarriage and fuselage scoops and bumps. Curiously, each plane is referred to as the Boeing Poseideon MRA.1 which is a different aeroplane, without the upper fuselage extension apparatus - weird! The cover has the correct Wedgetail name.

Despite this, it is a most useful sheet for an RAF aircraft and could possibly be used to add some markings to an Ozzie aeroplane. It is recommended to any modeller with deep pockets and room for this beast.
