Introduction

The Tugmaster deck tractor was derived from an industrial tow vehicle and first saw service with the Royal Navy in the late 1950s.

It served on the Royal Navy aircraft carriers throughout the 1960s but was quickly replaced later in the decade with a new purpose-built 4WD tractor.

FirstLook

Brengun has released a 1/32 scale Tugmaster Royal Navy Flight Deck Tractor

This is Brengun's third Tugmaster offering, with the others being in 1/72 and 1/32 scales.

The model is packaged in a stout cardboard box. Underneath the box art, Brengun's 1/32 scale Tugmaster tractor kit comprises 29 parts in conventionally cast grey resin, one photo-etched fret, a small decal sheet and instructions.

The resin is perfectly cast and the finish is smooth and satin.

Surface textures are simple with non-slip walkways plus some nice raised and recessed details.

This is partcularly nice on the chunky wheels.

The body is made up from two large resin castings.

Some careful sawing or Dremeling will be needed to free these from their casting blocks, but nothing beyond any modeller with some experience in working on resin.

Two strips are lined with the smaller resin parts.

These include steering wheel, backrest seat cushions, towing points, fire extinguishers and more.

The front panel has a flashed-over oval opening.

This will be covered by the brass photo-etched grille with italic Tugmaster lettering.

Decals

Decals are nicely printed and in register.

Markings for 82 and 83 are provided for two overall yellow examples.

These served on HMS Victorious in 1964.

Instructions are supplied on a double-sided sheet of paper.

Conclusion

This is a straightforward kit of a short lived but interesting Royal Navy subject.

Definitely Recommended.

Thanks to Brengun for the sample
