DSPIAE Rotary Grinding Tool and Bit Set Combo

USD $40.00 plus shipping available online from MPS.

Contents and Media: One rechargable grinding tool; Allen key for loosening chuck; one USB Type C charging cord (1 metre); eleven tungsten carbide grinding bits
Review Type: FirstLook
Advantages: Lightweight, smooth and powerful; won't roll off your desk; includes charging cable; very useful tungsten carbide grinding bits.
Disadvantages: Shanks of the DSPIAE grinding bits will not fit Dremel chucks (and vice versa).
Conclusion:

I am impressed with this compact grinding tool. The inclusion of the charging cable and the on-board Allen key are nice touches.

The tool runs smoothly at high and low speeds and the LED indicators tell you all you need to know when you are using the tool.

The bundling of the tungsten carbide grinding bits is a great idea and represents good value.

The grinding bits are well-suited to plastic modelling. You will find lots of uses for the eleven different bits.

I will be using this grinder tool package on many projects to come.

Highly Recommended

This grinder offers comparable functionality to a Dremel Motor Tool but it is smaller and much lighter.

The red metal cylinder of the body is topped with a contoured grip moulded from a firm but rubbery material. The tool feels natural to grip and secure to use.

The chuck is opened and closed using a supplied Allen key.

When not in use, the Allen key stows inside the body and may be positioned to prevent the tool rolling off your table.

The capsule-shaped display on the side of the body features two rows of lights. These indicate battery charge, operating speed (choice of three), load indicator and overload indicator.

Packed into a separate box is a 1 metre USB 3.0 to USB-C charging cord. The USB-C simply plugs into the base of the grinder.

Charging to 80% takes about 30 minutes. A full charge takes about an hour. The LED indicators will tell you when it is ready.

The box also contains a round-end, double-cut rotary burr.

Model Paint Solutions has bundled the grinder with a set of ten tungsten carbide grinding bits.

Despite Dremel offering a huge range of grinding and drilling tools, I have always thought that only a small number are useful to plastic modellers.

In contrast, I think these tungsten carbide grinding bits will all be useful for many modelling tasks. The shanks are wider than standard Dremel accessories. This probably contributes to the smooth operation of the tool.

I have already used one of the bits to grind away cockpit sidewall detail from a 1/32 scale Hasegawa Bf 109 K-4 and it was a revelation - fast and effective.

I ran the drill at full speed, easily removing the raised plastic.

I reckon it will perform well at the lower speeds too. I will try this next time.
