FirstLook

The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch is one of those aircraft that seems to wear its character on its sleeve. With its spindly undercarriage, extensive glazing and unmistakable high-lift wing, the Storch served in a wide variety of roles across multiple theatres. It is therefore fertile ground for decal producers, and ASK has made the most of the opportunity here.

This 1:32 scale release will be suitable for the venerable but still quite respectable Hasegawa kit.

The decal set provides markings for a selection of four Storchs that span operational and geographic diversity.
Specifics are:

  • Fieseler Fi 156C Storch, W.Nr. 5061, Greece-Balkans campaign, April 1941.

  • Fiesler Fi 156C Storch, 2./NAGr.2, Poland, summer 1944.

  • Fieseler Fi 156C Storch, 1.(F)/120, Eastern front, cca. 1943.

  • Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, Legion Condor, Spain, 1938.

If you wish, the decal cover varnish may be removed - wash off with Zippo lighter fluid or similar.

Printing quality is good. The decals are finely rendered with crisp edges and solid colour density. Even under magnification, the smaller stencil data appears legible and well-defined. Carrier film is commendably thin and closely trimmed, which should help the decals settle down convincingly over the Storch’s fabric and tubular structure without excessive silvering.

Colour fidelity looks good too. Whites are opaque and blacks are deep and consistent. Registration is spot-on across the sheet.
The instruction sheet is clear. Profiles are accompanied by basic information.

In use, these decals should present few challenges. The thin carrier film suggests they will respond well to setting solutions, although—as always—careful handling will be advisable.

In summary, ASK’s Fieseler Fi 156 Storch Part One decal set is a nicely-executed package that combines high-quality printing with four appealing subject choices. For anyone with a 1:32 scale Hasegawa Storch kit in the stash, this sheet offers an excellent opportunity to produce a distinctive and visually interesting model straight from the bench.
